Camping is a fun and relaxing way to spend time with your family and friends. If given the opportunity, everyone should go camping at least once. You do, though, need to prepare yourself with the right knowledge to make your camping trip both fun and safe. The following article contains great tips you can use the next time you go camping.

Plan accordingly when it comes to food. It is a hassle to make room in your car for all the food you need. However, proper nourishment is crucial when you are in the woods. Also, items that are fairly inexpensive in your local store often carry a higher price tag near camping sites. Bringing enough food means that you will save money and keep everyone in your family in a good mood.

If you’d like to prevent mosquito bites, but want to avoid using harsh chemicals, use an orange peel instead. Rub the orange peel over exposed areas of the skin, such as the neck, arms, face and legs to naturally repel mosquitoes. Not only will the orange peels feel better on your skin than traditional repelling chemicals, but they will smell better, too!

Consider camping in an area that also provides you with a place to swim. Camping can make you miss your shower. Cool water can give you a feeling of exhilaration that may help you to miss your shower at home much less.

If you’re camping with your family, try finding campsites that are pet-friendly. This is a great way for you to get your animals out in the fresh air. Your kids will be happy to have your animals there with you, so it can be a great experience for all of you.

To avoid blistered and chapped feet on your camping trip, bring a bar of soap along! Prior to any lengthy walk, rub the soap into the heals of your socks and this will minimize friction, thus reducing soreness. Keep the soap in your pocket for a quick dose when your feet start feeling beat-up or blistered.

Cross contamination is not an issue that only affects people that cook at home. When you are cooking outdoors, you still have to worry about not using the same cutting board to cut meat that you do to cut any other foods. If you only have one board, use both sides.

Before heading out to go camping, compile a checklist of items that you plan to bring. It’s especially important to make a checklist if you will be traveling a distance to the campgrounds. Start packing a few days ahead of your trip, and tick items off as you pack them.

Don’t forget to bring back-ups of things like batteries and flashlights. You will likely need to see when it gets dark out. Without a flashlight, you could easily stumble and fall or be surprised by local wildlife. If you’re taking kids along with you, give each one of them a flashlight.

You need to carry water that is clean if you will not have access to a safe spring or to clean tap water when you’re camping. You can either carry your own water in bottles or bring some iodine with you to sanitize nearby water. You can also use a water filter or boil water for around 10 minutes.

Again, camping has the potential to make for a wonderful trip, but a certain amount of know-how is essential. Be sure that you take what you have learned here and use them when you’re about to go camping next time. If you use the tips mentioned above, you are sure to have an enjoyable trip.
