If you have never camped, you don’t know how great it can be. Mother Nature has a way of relaxing even the most stressed soul. If you’ve never been camping before and the idea worries you, read on for a few helpful hints and tips.
You might think that you can find all of the wood that you need to keep the fire going, but there is a good chance that the wood will be wet. It’s always a good idea to take along some wood of your own and keep it in a dry place.
After buying a tent, make sure to pitch it in your yard before you leave for a trip. That way, you will know that the tent is complete and will understand the assembly process. This kind of “dry run” also helps lower your frustration level when setting up the tent at the campsite
Pack additional clothes when going camping. Camping can be very messy. Kids love to play in dirt. This means you should prepare to have dirty children. While this cannot usually be prevented, be sure to pack some extra clothing. The key is being prepared.
Choose a tent large enough for everyone that will be expected to use it. This will allow everyone in your tent to be comfortable at night and to easily get up if they need to use the bathroom.
You may wish to take a class that has to do with first aid, especially if you’re traveling with kids. With the training you receive, you will be better prepared to handle an accident or other emergency situation while you wait for medical assistance. Be sure to research the area you are visiting. Be sure you are aware whether there are any snakes or spiders that are poisonous and what kind of critters are out there in the area.
Make sure your medical insurance is up-to-date. You may need an additional policy when you are traveling on your camping trip. This is especially important if your camping destination is in Canada or another country. Don’t get caught without the protection you need in case of an emergency situation.
Pack a bandana. It can be used as a hand towel, potholder or even a gag in a pinch. It does not take much space in your bag and can save the day in many different situations.
Now that you know what to do, start planning your camping excursion. Just be sure to go prepared, use the tips you’ve learned and act cautiously in the woods. No matter how long or short your trip may be, the tips above are sure to serve you well.
