Camping can make for a fun time. It’s a great way to find out more about yourself while being close to nature. You can hike nature trails and build a campfire. There are a lot of things to think about and do when you’re on a camping trip so we’ve provided you with the following advice to help you along.
When going camping, make sure that you bring the right sleeping bag with you. Some sleeping bags will not keep you warm when the temperature dips below 40 degrees, while others will have you sweating all night long because they are too hot. The label on the bag usually will tell you what kinds of temperatures are appropriate for each sleeping bag.
When you pack up your camp site to go home, leave a few logs and some kindling for the next camping group that comes along. If you have ever arrived at your site after dark, you know how tough it can be to find firewood! It’s a very nice pay-it-forward gesture that will probably help out more than you can imagine.
If you’d like to prevent mosquito bites, but want to avoid using harsh chemicals, use an orange peel instead. Rub the orange peel over exposed areas of the skin, such as the neck, arms, face and legs to naturally repel mosquitoes. Not only will the orange peels feel better on your skin than traditional repelling chemicals, but they will smell better, too!
While camping, cook easy dinners like “hobo stew”. Simply bring potatoes, ground meat, and veggies. Cut the veggies and potatoes at your campsite. Using tinfoil like a bowl, put the ingredients inside and fold the foil over until the food is covered. Place foil on hot rocks or the coals of the campfire, and eventually you will have a tasty “stew”.
Bring a first aid kit. Camping is fun. It can also be a bit dangerous. Always be prepared. Small scrapes and rashes can be especially common out in nature. Bring along an emergency first aid kit full of anything you might need. You’ll be happy you did if something goes wrong.
When traveling to your camping destination, plan on stopping and having a meal when you’re near the campground, but before you actually arrive. Being well fed before arriving will ease frustrations if the campground is full, or if it takes longer to get your gear set up. Use this break to discuss your plans and to remind everyone of how to remain safe!
If you bring along a canine companion on your trip, keep your pet leashed and watch him or her closely. There are campers who do not like dogs. You should keep that in mind while you are on your camping trip. Also, dogs can cause damage if you let them run free, so be sure to keep control of them at all times.
Camping is fun, and camping with kids can be even more fun, but certain precautions need to be made for these little campers. Take plenty of extra clothes for them, because they will get dirty and wet. It’s important they don’t stay in wet clothes, because it’s possible, it could result in hypothermia. This goes for adults, too.
Is this the first time you are camping? It’s vital to learn all that you can before you leave about your tent. Doing so will ensure you know what tools you may need. This will also enable you to do this task quickly if you arrive at the campsite, right before darkness sets in.
Getting the most out of your camping experience should be easier now that you have these great ideas. Remember them when you go camping again. They will prove invaluable so that camping is a memorable experience for you.
