Camping is a pastime that has long been known to be a favorite of many families. However, many people have never tried it because they think it is too difficult. You just have to know what you are doing. This advice will make you love camping!
When packing for your camping trip, do not forget chairs and a radio. One of the best parts of camping is sitting around the campfire. You could sit on an old log, but why bother when you can pack chairs and be comfortable. The radio is for entertainment sitting around the fire. An even better idea is to bring your guitar for a sing along.
Plan accordingly when it comes to food. It is a hassle to make room in your car for all the food you need. However, proper nourishment is crucial when you are in the woods. Also, items that are fairly inexpensive in your local store often carry a higher price tag near camping sites. Bringing enough food means that you will save money and keep everyone in your family in a good mood.
At night, create “bear bags.” Tie a rope around the bags with your food and your trash. Then, find a tree and toss bags over a branch, raising until they are at least seven or eight feet off the ground. Tie the rope around the tree so it is secure. This way, bears and other animals will not be able to get into your food and trash during the night.
Bring supplies for ‘Smores. ‘Smores are an integral part of any camping trip. Simply pack graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows. Toast the marshmallows, then make it the filling to a graham cracker/chocolate sandwich. When you have a ‘Smore, you will want ‘some more’–bring enough for everyone to have at least two of them!
Try to ensure your camp is set up before night falls. When adventuring in an RV, be safely parked before dark. When you find a camping area, make sure that your tent is pitched on a flat area that isn’t near any unsafe ledges. If you do it before nighttime, it is easier to get familiar with the area. It also makes it much easier to actually see what you are doing, thus saving a great deal of frustration.
Clean up thoroughly when leaving a campsite. Try your best not to leave any trace of you at the campsite you stayed in. This is important, not just in terms of being considerate of other people. There are animals and insects that continue to live in the woods after you have left, so think of them as well.
Educate yourself about the area that you are camping in, and know what hazards you could encounter. This includes things like which spiders are deadly, whether or not there are sheer drops, and if flash floods are common. Each camping spot is unique and can be dangerous in its own way.
When preparing for a camping trip, people often fail to bring enough clothes. Remember that there will be no washing facilities, and you also need to think about how the weather can call for certain specific attire as well at times. You always want to be prepared, so pack accordingly.
If you are not a seasoned camper, stay close to home. You could have gear issues or you might want to shorten your trip. You may come to realize that you should have packed different clothing, or need more food. A lot of issues can happen to those camping the first time, so camp not too far away on your initial adventure.
