Camping is great. It is a wonderful time with nature that makes a great vacation for families, couples or one seeking solitude. There are many things you should learn in order to make your trip to the great outdoors as much fun and excitement as you expect. Review the ideas that follow to have the best trip possible.
When you pack up your camp site to go home, leave a few logs and some kindling for the next camping group that comes along. If you have ever arrived at your site after dark, you know how tough it can be to find firewood! It’s a very nice pay-it-forward gesture that will probably help out more than you can imagine.
Research any potential campground well. They all have different amenities. Some may have showers and bathrooms, while others may not. There are even a few campgrounds that are quite fancy, with onsite miniature golf games or water parks. You may not need or want all that, so figure it out ahead of time so that you are not disappointed when you get there.
A first aid kit or survival kit is imperative for camping. This kit should include water-purifying tablets, a first-aid kit, flare gun, survival knife and waterproof matches. Never assume there won’t be any trouble. Anything can happen, and you need these essential items to help save your life if necessary. Always carry this pack with you instead of leaving it at the campsite.
You need to maintain your cleanliness while camping. Good hygiene is difficult when you are camping sometimes, but you can keep yourself clean. A bottle of hand sanitizer is excellent to have so you can clean hands before eating. You can also use rubbing alcohol on areas of your body that are not sensitive. A mild biodegradable soap and a sponge can be used to take mini-baths when water resources are low.
Go to a class to learn about first aid. If something unexpected comes up, you will be ready to handle it. Also be sure to do all the research you can about the area. Find out if the area has poisonous snakes, what type of wildlife lives in the woods, etc.
While camping, cook easy dinners like “hobo stew”. Simply bring potatoes, ground meat, and veggies. Cut the veggies and potatoes at your campsite. Using tinfoil like a bowl, put the ingredients inside and fold the foil over until the food is covered. Place foil on hot rocks or the coals of the campfire, and eventually you will have a tasty “stew”.
Make sure you have a suitable water source. Even if you bring water with you, plan to need more water and know where you will be able to get more. It is a good idea to know where your water source will be before you go camping at all, but surely right after you arrive.
Camping in the wilderness alone is one of the most dangerous things that you can do. It is essential that you always bring at least one friend with you unless you are incredibly knowledgeable about the wilderness. Additionally, bringing several friends with multiple tents is the ideal situation, but this is not always possible.
When camping, most people enjoy relaxing around a campfire. To prevent your fire from becoming out of control, you should incorporate a few safety practices. First of all, build your fire away from bushes and trees so that sparks from your fire will not start a forest fire. You will also want to use a circle of rocks to contain your campfire. Do not ever leave your fire unattended. Before leaving your campsite, make sure your campfire has been totally extinguished and that there are no remaining hot embers.
When you do not pack and plan properly for your camping trip, it can be not only dangerous, but a disastrous adventure that no one will enjoy. Hopefully, the advice offered here can help you make your camping trip an exciting and unforgettable experience.
